Back by popular demand as the Friends of the Library's musical offering, Masterwork Conversations will perform a concert inspired by the story of Johannes Brahms and Clara and Robert Schumann.
Pianists Matthew Harrison and Vlada Yaneva have been bringing Masterwork Conversations to audiences since their inaugural Chopin series in 2010. Their performances have taken them from stages in Europe to Carnegie Hall to the airwaves of WQXR.
"Clara and Robert Schumann and their dear friend Johannes Brahms form one of the most complicated, intertwined, inspiring, and heartbreaking stories in all of music. All three composed, though their musical journeys, like their lives, took wildly different paths. Their story ranges from love and marriage to suicide and heartbreak. This is a tale that has made an indelible impression on our hearts, and is one we have been longing to share with you for years. We will try to unravel the different threads of a complicated story, and shed some light on a relationship shrouded in secrecy. Music united these three hearts, and throughout their lives it was a beacon of light, a path forward from pain, and a balm to their spirits. Join us for an unforgettable musical journey." –Matthew Harrison of Masterwork Conversations
