Join White Plains Librarian Barbara Wenglin via Zoom for our Fall Series using the anthology, "Music Stories", edited by Wesley Stace (Everyman's Pocket Classics, 2024).
Join White Plains Librarian Barbara Wenglin to explore compelling readings from the rich anthology, Music Stories (ed. Wesley Stace, Everyman’s Pocket Classics, 2024). These vibrant and varied works by diverse authors capture the universal – sometimes controversial -- world of music in a symphony of literary selections, paying tribute to one art form through another.
The reading for this session is: “The Blues I’m Playing” by Langston Hughes (1934 – p.83). A white, childless NY widow and patron of the arts is enchanted by a young African American pianist and underwrites her musical education. Conflicts arise when the patron imposes her classical art on her gifted protégée who must also remain true to her Harlem roots.
Copies of the series anthology, Music Stories, are available to reserve through the catalog with one held at the Reference Desk for reading in the Library. These vibrant and varied readings by diverse authors capture the universal language of music in a symphony of literary delights – paying homage to one art form through another.
We will meet Thursdays from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m on 1/8/26, 1/22/26. Meeting ID for all sessions is: 837 1709 4842 or phone in at 1-929-436-2866, no password needed.
