Join White Plains Librarian Barbara Wenglin via Zoom for our Spring Series using the anthology, "Music Stories," edited by Wesley Stace (Everyman's Pocket Classics, 2024).
Join White Plains Librarian Barbara Wenglin to explore compelling readings from the rich anthology, Music Stories (ed. Wesley Stace, Everyman’s Pocket Classics, 2024). These vibrant and varied works by diverse authors capture the universal – sometimes controversial -- world of music, paying tribute to one art form through another. We will also discuss related film selections at some sessions, to view before we meet.
The reading for this session is: The Reunion by Maya Angelou (1983 – p. 229). Honored with The Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2010, acclaimed author Angelou exposes the ironic contrast between childhood servitude and adult success when an accomplished Black jazz pianist encounters the privileged white woman whose family once employed her as a menial and lowly servant.
Copies of the series anthology are available to reserve through the catalog with one held at the Reference Desk for reading in the Library.
We will meet Thursdays from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m on 2/19, 3/5, 3/26, 4/16, 4/30, 5/14, 6/4, 6/25. Meeting ID for all sessions is: 837 1709 4842 or phone in at 1-929-436-2866, no password needed.
