September is "Color Him Father" Month

The New York Fathering Conference Committee, the White Plains Youth Bureau, Grandpas United, and JumpStart for Dads are proud to designate the month of September as "Color Him Father" Month—a month-long celebration recognizing the invaluable role fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers, mentors, and father figures play in the lives of children and families.

The theme, Color Him Father, is inspired by the classic R&B hit by The Winstons. The song tells the touching story of a stepfather who marries a widow and lovingly raises her children after their biological father is killed in the war. In appreciation of his love, sacrifice, guidance, and unwavering commitment, the children proudly proclaim, "Color Him Father." The song remains a timeless tribute to the profound impact a caring father figure can have on a child's life.

Color Him Father Month is more than a celebration—it is a call to recognize, honor, and encourage fathers and father figures whose love, leadership, and presence help shape strong children, healthy families, and thriving communities. Through storytelling, education, and community engagement, these events will highlight the lasting impact that fathers have on future generations.

Throughout September, a series of events will celebrate and elevate the importance of engaged fatherhood.  Contact the Youth Bureau at 914-422-1378 for more information on these and all their events.
