Join White Plains Librarian Barbara Wenglin via Zoom for our Fall Series using the anthology, "Music Stories", edited by Wesley Stace (Everyman's Pocket Classics, 2024).
Join White Plains Librarian Barbara Wenglin to explore compelling readings from the rich anthology, Music Stories (ed. Wesley Stace, Everyman’s Pocket Classics, 2024). These vibrant and varied works by diverse authors capture the universal – sometimes controversial -- world of music in a symphony of literary selections, paying tribute to one art form through another.
The reading for this session is: “A Duet” by Ian McEwan (2022 – p.23). Set in a rural British boarding school for boys during the Cuban Missile Crisis (1962), a common discussion amongst the lads is not wanting to die a virgin. 14-year-old Roland’s recurrent fantasies about his former piano teacher lead him to make a bold visit on his bike to Miss Miriam’s cottage.
Copies of the series anthology, Music Stories, are available to reserve through the catalog with one held at the Reference Desk for reading in the Library.
We will meet Thursdays from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m on 10/9/25, 10/23/25, 11/6/25, 11/20/25, 12/11/25, 1/8/26, 1/22/26. Meeting ID for all sessions is: 837 1709 4842 or phone in at 1-929-436-2866, no password needed.
