Join Librarian Barbara Wenglin via Zoom using the anthology "Music Stories," ed. Wesley Stace. We will discuss films at some sessions to view before we meet.

Join White Plains Librarian Barbara Wenglin to explore compelling readings from the rich anthology, Music Stories (ed. Wesley Stace, Everyman’s Pocket Classics, 2024). These vibrant and varied works by diverse authors capture the universal – sometimes controversial -- world of music, paying tribute to one art form through another.  We will also discuss related film selections at some sessions, to view before we meet.

For this session: Film Discussion - CODA (2021 - 1hr. 50min.)
Oscar winner: Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor, Best Screenplay

Title means Child of Deaf Adults, and three of the actors are deaf, using American Sign Language in real life. High school daughter Ruby is a talented singer and the only hearing person in the family. Encouraged by her music teacher, she is torn by her desire to attend music conservatory and helping her parents as their lifelong interpreter. With stellar performances by Marlee Matlin, Emilia Jones, Daniel Durant, and Oscar winner Troy Kotsur.

To view before session via DVD in catalog, also streamed on Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video.

We will meet Thursdays from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m on 6/25. Meeting ID for all sessions is: 837 1709 4842 or phone in at 1-929-436-2866, no password needed.
