White Plains Public Library
Virtual"Mi Gente Estuvo Aquí También" is an engaging and practical introduction to Hispanic genealogy designed to help beginners start their family history journey with clarity and confidence.
Led by genealogist Irisneri Alicea Flores, this presentation focuses on simplifying the research process while honoring the rich cultural and historical context of Puerto Rican and broader Hispanic ancestry.
Participants will learn how to focus their search, document what they already know, engage with family members, and utilize private family collections. The program emphasizes strategies that reduce overwhelm and help avoid common beginner mistakes when using online platforms.
The presentation also highlights accessible and low-cost resources, including genealogical societies, FamilySearch, Family History Centers, and other trusted tools within the genealogy community. Attendees will gain a foundational understanding of the two most essential record groups for Hispanic research—civil registration and church records—and how to effectively use them.
This program is ideal for individuals interested in beginning their family history research, reconnecting with their cultural roots, or gaining a deeper understanding of Hispanic genealogical practices.
